AF – Subdivisions – Hyde Park
Hyde Park was Austin’s first suburb, dating back to 1891. The area was developed by Monroe Martin Shipe to be an affluent neighborhood featuring a streetcar system and a large artificial lake. A resort area with a pavilion was an ideal location for plays, concerts, and dances. The area had previously been very rural and was used as grounds for the Texas State Fair.
