**While the AHC remains closed to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently offering expanded remote reference services to customers who need access to the AHC’s collections. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. You can check here for updates from the Austin Public Library.**
The Austin History Center (AHC) strives to make information about Austin and Travis County readily available to the public. Our books, periodicals and much of our media collection are listed in the Austin Public Library's Catalog and many of our archival collection finding aids have been posted to Texas Archival Resources Online. Our other materials may be accessed using a variety of in-house indexes, catalogs, databases and research guides. Our Reading Room staff is available to assist you in the use of these items.
Contact Us with a Research Request
If you have a research question, you may submit it using our Research Request Form (please disregard payment information as we work to update our forms) or call our reference desk at 512-974-7480 during open hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm starting on June 8, 2020). While the Austin History Center remains closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, staff will fulfill research requests by sending low-resolution scans of collections materials to assist with their research. This includes requests for scanned documents, maps, and photographs; digitized audiovisual materials, copies of obituaries or newspaper articles; or scanned portions of City reports or other historical books.
Requests will take up to 2 weeks to process, and requests for large amounts of materials may be sent in batches as staff time allows. Access copies are provided at no charge during the pandemic, and production quality copies can be provided for a fee. Please note that the Austin History Center reserves the right to refuse to fill any copy request because of potential damage to a fragile original, copyright restrictions, or other concerns. We will make every effort to quickly inform customers if we cannot fill an order.
