As many of us know, March is Women's History Month. This year, expand your notion of "history" and explore women's cultural creations from all over the world. The Austin Public Library has a plethora of books, music and movies made by and featuring women, in online and physical formats.
You can start with hoopla's Women's History Month documentary collection, then head over to their Music section and get to know some chanteuses or rock out with PJ Harvey. Don't forget to swing by the comics and graphic novels section for powerful stories and excellent illustrations for all ages.
OverDrive has hundreds of eBooks in their Women's History Month section, covering everything from traditional history to celebrity memoirs. It also has thousands of eBooks and audiobooks by your favorite women authors, such as Jane Austen, J.K. Rowling, Isabelle Allende and Zadie Smith.
If you're looking for new women writers, use Gale Literary Sources and their Person Search tool. You can search for author information and limit by gender, genre, ethnicity and other criteria. So to read up on women poets or playwrights, for example, you can easily create a list with biographies and reviews.
For topical recommendations, the Austin Public Librarians have compiled several lists for you:
