Austin Out Loud is a program series that features Austin writers of all genres, held at the Old Quarry Branch on the last Wednesday of every month. The last Austin Out Loud event was sci-fi themed and featured local authors Christy Esmahan, M.G. Herron, Nancy Smith, and Steve Statham. They each read a short story or an excerpt from one of their novels. The first Austin Out Loud event was in January, when author Sarah Bird (who lives in the Old Quarry neighborhood) came and read from her book A Love Letter to Texas Women. (She also read this essay: https://www.tribtalk.org/2017/01/11/texas-lawmakers-retracted-my-award-but-i-wrote-an-acceptance-speech-anyway/). In the future, we hope to feature more local authors and a wide variety of genres including nonfiction, contemporary fiction, mystery, fantasy, and horror.
