It’s the dawn of a new year. A great time to for a fresh start and new experiences. I’ve talked to several people lately who are beginning the year by setting reading goals and making their book lists for 2012. With that in mind I would like to bring your attention to the library’s ever-growing collection of Adult Graphic Novels. Graphic Novels cover a huge range of topics, include amazing art and (in case you’re interested in both quality and quantity) they are generally pretty quick reads.
Maybe you’re nervous about exploring a new genre all by yourself. How will you know where to start? Or what to look for? How will you decide which sub-genre you might enjoy? The good news is that there’s no need to go it alone! The Austin Public Library has its very own Graphic Novel Book Club that meets downtown once a month. The group includes graphic novel die-hards as well as those new to the genre (like me!). It’s a great place to learn about the format, get some great book recommendations, and chat about your thoughts and opinions on the month’s choice. Next week we’ll be meeting on Wednesday at 7:00 pm to discuss Scott Snyder and Stephen King’s American Vampire. You can see our schedule for the next six months on the library’s newly redesigned website!
For a list of Graphic Novels to get you started check out APL Recommend's Graphic Novels and The Guardian’s list of 10 best Graphic Novels.

Happy reading!
