Austin Public Library facilities and the Austin History Center will be CLOSED Saturday, May 25, through Monday, May 27. Recycled Reads, the Austin Public Library’s used bookstore, will be open Saturday and Sunday, but will be closed on Memorial Day.

Biography in Context

Biography in ContextBiography in Context is a comprehensive database of biographical information on people throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas. It combines more than 600,000 biographies on more than 525,000 people gathered from 170 Gale reference sources. The database also includes full-text articles from nearly 300 periodicals. 50,000 new or updated bios are added annually in addition to daily updates to account for awards and events.

Search for people using name, birth date, death date, places, nationality, ethnicity, occupation, or gender. Criteria can be combined to create a custom search.

The included Lives & Perspectives Collection provides multidisciplinary content on notable figures and the societal forces that have shaped their lives. It's geared towards high school curricula and undergraduate coursework.
