The Advancing America Foundation and Heritage Language donated 54 bilingual Spanish/English read-along books to the Austin Public Library. The donation includes eighteen copies of the following three Heritage Language books: El Pan Perfecto/The Perfect Bread, Un Globo Café Chocolate/A Chocolate Brown Balloon and Un Regalo Misterioso/A Mysterious Present. Look for these titles at a Branch near you or reserve a copy online using FindIt, APL's online catalog.
Heritage Language books are great resources for Spanish or English learners in both the classroom and at home. Each book has the two versions of the story on opposing pages, English on the left and Spanish on the right. By not interleaving the two, kids can read in any one language without unnatural interruptions and easily figure out new vocabulary and grammar constructs by referencing the translation on the adjacent page. The books come with an audio CD with readings of the story in both languages.
"This generous donation will help the Library meet the demand for bilingual read-along books and early literacy resources," says Brenda Branch, Director of Libraries.

About the Advancing America Foundation
The Advancing America Foundation partners with local for-profit companies and non-profit organizations to create solutions that meet the needs of the growing Spanish-speaking community of central Texas and other cities across the nation. The foundation was formed in response to the success of Feria Para Aprender over the previous four years in Austin and the opportunity for expansion into other markets as well as development into other areas, such as health and fitness.
