Austin Public Library Expands Wi-Fi HotSpot Lending Pilot

Austin Public Library has expanded its Wi-Fi HotSpot Lending pilot program to include 10 Library Branch locations after a successful pilot at the Southeast Branch location. The program allows Library customers to check out active Wi-Fi hotspots that provide mobile access to the internet.

“Residents look to the Library for free Internet access,” said Roosevelt Weeks, Austin Public Library Director. “The expanded hotspot lending pilot program will allow even more Library customers to use our services without having to travel to the library every day.”

Digital inclusion is a strategic priority for Austin Public Library, and an important part of the Imagine Austin vision. The Wi-Fi HotSpot Lending pilot program:

  • Supports students and their parents by providing access to educational resources,
  • Supports job seekers by providing access to employment information and resources, and
  • Bridges the digital divide in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods.

The 6-week pilot program began in mid-December, and now includes the following locations:

Carver Branch, 1161 Angelina St., 512-974-1010
