Meet the Finalists for Director of Libraries

The public is invited to join the Austin Public Library and the City of Austin for a Town Hall Meeting with the final candidates for the Director of Libraries position on Thursday, July 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Carver Branch, 1161 Angelina St.

At the Town Hall, candidates will give a short speech of three to five minutes each and then take audience questions. Afterward, an informal meet and greet will give members of the public an opportunity to speak with the candidates on a more personal level.

The executive position of Director of Libraries was advertised from May 19 to June 23, 2017 by GovHR executive recruitment firm. Out of 51 resumes submitted from 19 U.S. states as well as Italy, Kenya, and Nigeria, five final candidates will interview with the City of Austin's hiring panel on July 27 during the day. On the evening of July 27, the Town Hall will include the final two to three candidates.

After the Town Hall, Interim Assistant City Manager Sara Hensley will decide which one or two candidates will go forward to a final interview with Interim City Manager Elaine Hart for a final interview on July 28.

The previous Director of Libraries, Brenda Branch, retired on December 31, 2016 after nearly 40 years of dedicated service with the City of Austin.
