ABOUT THE COLLABORATOR
Yamin Li grew up in Suzhou, China and initially entered a PhD program in Cellular and Molecular Biology in the U.S. before graduating with a degree in Visual Art from UT-Austin in 2015. Since her adulthood, Yamin migrates back and forth between the US and China, and her work is informed by her sense of essentially being out of place both geographically and culturally. Through observing her own relationships with her parents, family and friends, Yamin draws attention to the impact our relationships to our surroundings have on our psychological beings and raises questions about the traditional values we hold and take for granted. Drawing on her background in both Science and Art, Yamin employs various media, including digital art, sculpture, installation, film, and painting. Yamin has exhibited at galleries throughout Austin as well as Shanghai and Chengdu, China. She is a participant in the NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program in San Antonio 2024. She lives and works in Austin.
