“Today’s public libraries are bold and pioneering community leaders that play many roles, from educational institutions to technology centers and entrepreneurial hubs. I congratulate Austin Public Library for illustrating a persistent commitment to realizing a groundbreaking initiative that has transformed its community."
- Susan Benton, Urban Libraries Council President and CEO
Austin Public Library Social Media Ambassadors extend the Library’s reach into the Austin community. The program is a grassroots effort to promote the Library using Austin Public Library’s social media channels. Through this program the Library builds a relationship with a segment of the Austin community that is passionate about the Library and willing to share the Library’s messages with their families, friends and followers on various social networks. “I like to think of our ambassadors as a social media army of library fans. They’re a force to be reckoned with because their passion for the library gives them power, and social media amplifies that power. They mean a lot to the library and do a lot for it, too.”
- Cesar Garza, Librarian, Austin Public Library
The success of Austin Public Library's Social Media Ambassadors has inspired other libraries in the U.S. and Canada. The public libraries in Frisco, Texas; Edwardsville, Illinois; Prince Frederick, Maryland; Cheshire, Connecticut; and Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada recently launched their own social media ambassador groups.
