AF – Tower Lights
September 4, 1945
Austin’s Moonlight Towers date back to 1894 and 1895 when tower lighting was considered by cities as an effective way of lighting up unpaved and undeveloped areas. Of the original thirty-one towers erected in Austin, seventeen still stood in the early 1990s. These official state archeological landmarks are the only surviving examples of American tower lighting systems.
