Central Library Shared Learning Rooms Temporarily Closed Starting May 12th for Tech Makeover
Starting on Monday, May 12th, 2025, the Central Library will begin a comprehensive remodel of its eleven Shared Learning Rooms (SLRs) to modernize outdated technology, improve durability against tampering and theft, and transform each space into a more innovative and collaborative environment.
Each SLR will feature fully integrated components such as new LG displays, Shure microphones, Genelec speakers, and Airtame for wireless connectivity. Rooms will be certified for Zoom, Teams, and Webex, while remaining fully device-agnostic and BYOD—Bring Your Own Device-compatible. These upgraded AV-enabled spaces will be optimized for remote work and learning - offering seamless plug-and-play access via a single USB-C connection and intuitive touchscreen controls.
Construction begins May 12th and is expected to take up to three months.
The Shared Learning Rooms at the Central Library will not be available for reservations or walk-ins until the renovations are complete.
We know this closure may cause short-term impediments for our patrons, but we believe this investment in long-term sustainability and innovation will be worth it. These upgrades are designed to keep up with the evolving needs of hybrid work, collaborative learning, and group engagement—positioning the rooms as a civic counterpart to commercial co-working and conferencing spaces. In the meantime, Shared Learning Rooms at the Terrazas and Ruiz Branch Libraries are still available, as are the meeting rooms at every branch library.
