Raíces y Alas: A Día de los muertos celebration

Join us at the Southeast Branch for Raíces y Alas: a Día de los Muertos celebration. Día de los Muertos is the day we remember our ancestors and all those who have passed. One symbol of this day is the monarch butterfly. Monarchs migrate to Mexico in the fall, passing through Texas on their way. Some people feel that their presence represents a visit from the ancestors. Learning about the butterfly's life cycle and its impact on our urban forest ecosystem is also an opportunity to consider our responsibility to land and community. We will have Día de los Muertos crafts and activities, with a special focus on these very special pollinators. Join us to learn about life cycles and celebrate the connections between human culture and the natural world. Children and families of all ages welcome. This event is part of the citywide Roots and Wings Festival.
