State of Black Brick and Mortar Spaces Panel Discussion
State of Black Brick and Mortar Spaces Panel Discussion
A community conversation on ownership, resilience, and the future of Black-owned physical spaces in Austin.
This moderated discussion brings together Black business owners, cultural workers, and space-holders to reflect on the current landscape of brick-and-mortar spaces—what it takes to sustain them, the pressures they face, and what’s needed for long-term survival and growth.
Grounded in lived experience, the conversation will explore themes of land, capital, community, displacement, and collective care, while creating space to name challenges and imagine what’s possible when Black spaces are supported to thrive.
This program is part of the Holding Spaces exhibition and public programming series.
