You are Charles Dickens. You have several small children and a house under renovation. Debts up to the eyeballs and your last book was a flop. Creditors are banging on the door. Your banker won’t answer your telegrams. And your wife is looking at chandeliers again. What do you do?

You write a book. You write it in a couple of weeks while also getting the illustrations and typesetting done. All so you can get it on shelves in time for Christmas. With your life falling apart around you, years of demons start digging into your psyche. After all, you were sold off by your parents to a factory as a child and that kind of sucks, even for nineteenth century England. Bouncing between debt collectors and childhood trauma, Charles Dickens ends up writing the book that is credited with taking a minor December holiday and turning it into the biggest day of the year.

This is the story of The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017) and parts of it are even true.
