My Blue Heaven (1990)

In 1980, Henry Hill of the Lucchese crime family turned state’s witness and helped bring down one of the largest crime syndicates in America. The harrowing details of the inner workings of one of the most violent organizations of the twentieth century was portrayed in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film, Wiseguys. Ray Liotta played Henry Hill, his criminal acts and subsequent entry into the witness protection program. It’s all very gritty, violent, and Scorsese.

Within a month of the release of the critically acclaimed Wiseguys came Nora Ephron’s My Blue Heaven (1990), in which Steve Martin plays Henry Hill (very loosely) and his life adjusting to suburbia while in the confines of the FBI witness protection program. Coincidence? Heck no. The film Wiseguys was based on the conveniently titled book, Wiseguys, written by Nicholas Pileggi (who contributed to the screenplay). Nicholas was, at the time, married to Nora Ephron, who also adapted the book into the 90’s comedy My Blue Heaven.

So, if you don’t have the stomach for all that grit and gore that Scorsese schleps out, join us for My Blue Heaven and enjoy the lighter side of organized crime.
