Bike Maintenance 101: Presented by Austin Yellow Bike Project

...Part 2! Brakes & Drivetrain

Austin Yellow Bike Project and Austin Public Library's Recycled Reads bookstore team up to bring you a free community workshop!

Learn about the Tool Library program offered at Recycled Reads and how to use the bicycle repair tools we have available to be checked out!

Attendants will be led by experienced Yellow Bike volunteers covering some of the essentials of bicycle maintenance, safety and basic repairs.

Areas of focus will include:

  • Brakes - different types, inspection, minor adjustments
  • Drive train (front/rear derailleur and shifters) - operating principles, inspection, adjustment
  • Cables & housing - inspection and lubrication

*Please be aware*

The workshop will primarily be demonstration/presentation based, with opportunities for hands-on instruction throughout.

However, due to space limitations, we are not able to have attendants bring their bikes inside the store to be worked on. For help with specific repairs for your bike, please see Austin Yellow Bike's calendar and attend one of their free Open Workshops. Thanks for your understanding!
