Printmaking for the People: The Mexican Penny Press + Stamp Making
Presented by the LLILAS Benson
A picture is worth a thousand words, especially in times of revolution. Albert Palacios, from the LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections at the University of Texas at Austin, will offer a talk about the graphics that Mexican artists, such as José Guadalupe Posada, created for "penny press" periodicals on the eve of the Mexican Revolution (1900-1910) and their perspectives on politics, women, and the daily life of the working class.
After the talk, you will have the opportunity to create your own rubber stamp. All materials will be provided!
The talk will be in English.
