Stories That Explode and Implode: Creating Outer and Inner Conflict in Fiction
Fiction is often described as either plot-driven or character-driven, one focusing on external drives while the other focuses on internal drives. But why have “or” when we can have “and”? This workshop focuses on creating multidimensional conflict in plot-driven, character-driven, and dual-driven work. Through a short lesson, discussion, and writing exercises, we’ll create internal conflicts that are externally manifested and external conflicts tied to characters’ inner worlds.
What will we need for the workshop? Something to write with, something to write on, and a bit of imagination.
The Badgerdog Creative Writing program includes workshops for all ages, classroom-based lessons, and youth camps to inspire and guide our up-and-coming writers. Badgerdog is a program of The Library Foundation, which offers a range of enriching cultural and educational community programs for all ages in close partnership with the library.
