Contemporary Indigenous Art Exploration: Inspired by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month

Monday, November 9 - 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Hampton Branch at Oak Hill
5125 Convict Hill Rd.

Participants will create a mixed-media collage inspired by the bold colors, layered images, and storytelling style of contemporary Indigenous artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith. An enrolled Salish member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation in Montana, Smith has been creating complex abstract paintings and prints since the 1970s.  Children will combine drawing, collage, and symbols to create an artwork about the land, animals, and community. Using the provided cardstock as a base, magazine images, printed textures, or drawn shapes to cut out and layer, add drawings of animals, rivers, landforms, or personal symbols using markers or crayons and one large animal silhouette (owl, deer, beaver, etc.) to create an piece of your own!
