Homeschool Fridays: Spring into Art with the Elisabet Ney Museum
Art Through Portraiture
Learn about a variety of sculpting techniques through activities inspired by local artist, Tammie Rubin. During this session, we will experiment with carving self-portrait sculptures using a variety of materials. Participants will receive all of the necessary supplies along with guided instructions. There is no fee and attendance is open to youth ages 8 through 12 years old.
This activity is part of the Elisabet Ney Museum's brand new program, Breaking the Mold: Mobile Art Crates. The crate, itself, and the inside contents were designed by artist, Tammie Rubin, as a way to illuminate Elisabet Ney's sculpting processes while enlisting STEAM focused teaching methodologies.
The museum's education staff will bring the Breaking the Mold program into local fourth grade classrooms this fall. To learn more about this initiative, please contact our Education Coordinator at lindsay.barras@austintexas.gov.
