Austin Public Library Invites Fans to Celebrate Comics and Pop Culture at CABAM! Con

Free convention-style event brings comics, cosplay, games, art, and fandom to the Austin Central Library on September 12  
 
Austin Public Library invites fans of comics, anime, games, movies, television, and pop culture to come together for CABAM! Con, a free, all-ages convention-style event taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 12, at the Central Library, 710 W. César Chávez St. 
 
CABAM! Con, a celebration of “Comics, Anime, Books, Art, Movies and more” will transform the Central Library with a day of fandom, creativity, and community. Attendees will have opportunities to connect with fellow fans, discover local artists and creators, participate in interactive activities, show off their cosplay, and explore the many ways stories and popular culture bring people together. 

“Austin Public Library is proud to be a place where people can explore their interests, express their creativity, and connect with others,” said Austin Public Library Director Hannah Terrell. “CABAM! Con brings all of those things together in a fun and welcoming celebration of the stories, characters, and fandoms our community loves.” 

The event will feature activities and experiences inspired by comics and pop culture, including: 

  • Superhero-themed games and crafts; 
  • Pop-ups from local comic and book stores; 
  • Sneak preview and voice-acting/foley demonstration from “Treasure Island Reimagined: Jane Hawkins and the Pirate's Gold”; 
  • Lego Star Wars, Batman, and other builds from ATXLUG (Austin Lego User Group) 
  • Chainmail-making demonstration; 
  • Live themed trivia games; 
  • “Kid Con” with crafts and storytimes and a chibi art class; 
  • Teens-only gaming area; 
  • Anime voice-dubbing activity with APL’s Innovation Lab; 
  • Dungeons & Dragons drop-in tutorials; 
  • Free comic book giveaways; 
  • And more! 

CABAM!Con is free and open to the public. All-ages-friendly cosplay welcome.
