Volunteer with the Library
Take on a volunteer position with the library

Teen Fellowship
The library, with generous support from the Library Foundation, has a paid teen fellowship program for youth. The Austin Public Library Youth Fellowship program seeks to connect teens with their libraries to initiate positive change in their communities.  This initiative is focused on improving teen services at libraries, increasing teen awareness of careers in libraries, and increased teen involvement in advocacy and education around library related issues. The APL+APLFF Fellowship envisions a future where teens are active participants in decision-making about their libraries and fully engaged in improving their own communities by leveraging their libraries for the greater good.

The Application is open June 1-30 each summer, and the position runs from late August through late May during the school year. Teens in the program are paid $21 per hour for up to 10 hours of work per month, and will work as a team to create 2-3 Community Action Projects each year.  Info sessions are scheduled in June to help candidates with their application questions. More info and fliers can be found here. Questions: kathleen.houlihan [at] austintexas.gov.

Internships
The library hosts paid interns every summer through various City and County sponsored internship programs. Find out more about these opportunities on the Youth and Family Services site for the City of Austin. Annual application window for summer is the end of January through March.
