Tweens Create with the Elisabet Ney Museum

Learn about sculpting techniques through activities inspired by local artist, Virginia L. Montgomery.

Learn about the art of portraiture through an activity inspired by local artist, Virginia L. Montgomery. During this session, we will experiment with creating clay portraits by studying dramatic poses. Participants will receive all of the necessary supplies along with guided instructions.   

This program is open to youth ages 8 through 12 years old.

This activity is part of the Elisabet Ney Museum's brand new program, Breaking the Mold: Mobile Art Crates. The crate, itself, and the inside contents were designed by artist, Virginia L Montgomery, as a way to illuminate Elisabet Ney's sculpting processes while enlisting STEAM focused teaching methodologies.

The museum's education staff will bring the Breaking the Mold program into local fourth grade classrooms this fall. To learn more about this initiative, please contact our Education Coordinator at lindsay.barras@austintexas.gov.
