Old Quarry and Willie Mae Kirk Branch Renovations

Austin Public Library’s Old Quarry Branch and Willie Mae Kirk Branch will be closed for major renovations starting in summer 2024, with reopening planned for early 2025.

Projects at both branches will include:

  • Modernized layout and interior design
  • Exterior façade Improvements
  • ADA improvements to restrooms
  • Sustainable flooring
  • Fresh paint scheme
  • Technology overhaul
  • LED Lighting
  • Fire and Security systems upgrade
  • Roof Replacement
  • New HVAC systems and upgraded controls
  • Window replacements

These projects are funded by the 2018 Library Bonds approved by City of Austin voters. Check this page for updated details throughout the projects leading up to reopening.

Old Quarry Branch Project:

Closure date: June 17, 2024

  • Shared Learning Rooms
  • Improvements to children's area
  • New teen space
  • Outdoor reading space

Willie Mae Kirk Branch Project:

Closure date: July 13, 2024

  • New teen makerspace
  • Innovation lab
